What's it Like to Work With Real Life Clients

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

Working with a new client can be exciting but also very stressful. My own personal experiences have taught me this lesson. For instance, I am currently working with two clients at the moment, including a local songwriter who needed a website redesign. Just from my experience with these two very different clients, I have learned so much.

Working with the first client was quite a challenge. The key things that were frustrating were the lack of communication and the short deadline we were given. We were tasked with promoting them by designing posters, postcards, creating social media posts, and distributing them in the Fargo/Moorhead area. The designing process was exciting, but the short deadline and lack of communication made it stressful. Not every client is the same as the last, every client has their own desires, needs, and expectations from us at Flypaper.

I am currently in the process of working with another client and a lot of progress has been made. This client has been fun to work with because we have an extensive deadline to work with, which leads to room for improvement. They also gave me full creative control to redesign his website. We have monthly meetings so he can provide feedback and we can further improve his website. The creative freedom that he gave me has me take some risks and try out new things since they are open to new ideas.

For both clients, it was important that we created a contract and a budget sheet. The clients we work with need to know what it will cost for our work. It is important to make sure that the client is satisfied with the work once it is done. I realized that every client is different from the last, but it is still important to keep bringing them your skills.
